Commission Highlight

One of the great honors of being an artist is bringing someone else’s idea to life. A dear client of mine purchased the painting “Dreaming in Italian” a few years ago from The Miller Gallery. One of the reasons that he personally connected with the piece is that each of the individual items featured had a tie to his life.

He recently decided that he would like to have a partner piece that showcased all of their wife’s favorite things, too. I was thrilled about this idea and eager to bring the concept to life. After discussing what the partner piece might include, I created these two sketches as possible solutions.

We knew that the intended direction was to have more feminine flair. We decided on a focus of blues and pinks for the color palette. We finessed the specific items to be featured in the composition and ended up going with option two. Then I created a digital color sketch to make sure we were on the same page.

The painting was created with acrylic mediums on cradled birch panel, finished with a soft white wood float frame. We are both very pleased with how this piece turned out. I would love to create more special tablescapes for others! If you’d like to see your own come to life, email me to get started. Cheers!
