Podcasts That Inspire + Motivate

I remember getting my first Ipod after my 8th grade graduation. As I built out my library with bands like Brand New, Green Day, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, I wondered what the heck a podcast was. Fast forward ten years and podcasts are literally what got me through each work day fresh out of college. While I cut foam core and washed chalkboard with windex and rubbing alcohol (yes - simultaneously burning my nostril hairs), I would listen to thrilling series like Serial, The Great Discontent and Design Matters. The shows provided an excellent distraction as well as entertainment as I plugged through my work day. Fast forward again 10 years and while I prime canvases, research references, and paint, podcasts are still my favorite companion (unless I’m writing, then I’m all about some moody jazz but that’s neither here nor there). Here are my top 5 go to series that have so much to offer.

Raw Milk

This has been the most impactful and insightful podcast I have found for a creative business owner. I have been slowly making my way through the series. Beth Kirby was a force to reckon with and someone who continues to inspire me the most as I grow in my creative business. Extremely grateful to have access to this series on Spotify - don’t miss it.

Longer Tables

I adore Jose Andres and his positive outlook. He approaches everything with an attitude of abundance and innovation. One of his most recent episodes he interviews Martha Stewart! It’s seriously good stuff. Highly recommend it if you are into stories about how we’re all connected through food.

This is Love

Phoebe Judge is an industry leader in the podcast world. She has three shows all of which are full of surprise and intrigue. This particular one is quirky and light hearted and thoroughly entertaining. She also hosts the shows Criminal and Phoebe Reads a Mystery.

What You’re Eating

I am extremely fascinated with food and where it comes from. This podcast dives into the effects of a global industrialized food system and breaks down individual facets of it. I find it educational as well as inspiring because it makes me rethink what is normal in my consumption through food.

Pep Talks with Mal

It is no secret that starting your own business means you spend a lot of time alone chipping away at the work. Pep Talks with Mal is hosted by one of my best friends Malorie Burden and it provides exactly the support and companionship I need in my week. It’s been thrilling to watch her build this series and I highly recommend a listen!
